Fall is here! And with it comes crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, beautiful golden light and approximately three weeks where everyone suddenly remembers how pretty Vancouver Island can be. 😂
If you've been meaning to update your family photos but don't want to commit to a full session, my Fall Mini Sessions are the perfect little option.
They're short, relaxed and designed to capture your family as they actually are. A little playing, a little cuddling, a little walking around, and a few moments where everyone is laughing.

WHY BOOK A FALL MINI SESSION?
Fall is one of my favourite times of year for family photos.
The colours are gorgeous, the light is softer, and there is just something about everyone bundled up in sweaters and jackets that makes family photos feel a little extra cozy.
But I also know that not everyone wants to spend an hour or two having family photos taken.
Maybe you have little kids who are done after about 20 minutes. Maybe you've got hockey practice to get to. Maybe you just want a handful of beautiful updated photos without making a whole afternoon of it.
That's exactly what these are for.
We'll keep things moving, have some fun, and I'll give you enough direction that you aren't left wondering what on earth you're supposed to do with your hands.
The goal isn't perfectly posed photos of everyone staring at the camera.
It's photos that actually feel like your family.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once you've booked your session, you'll receive everything you need to know before the big day, including the exact meeting location and what time to arrive.
When you arrive, we'll get started right away.
You don't need to worry about posing or figuring out what to do. I'll guide you through it.
We'll walk, play, cuddle, tickle, explore and grab a few more traditional family portraits along the way.
And if someone decides they'd rather pick up a stick and inspect it very seriously for five minutes? We'll work with that too.
Some of my favourite photos happen when nobody is actually trying to have their photo taken.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
This is probably the question I get asked the most, and the answer is thankfully pretty simple.
You don't need to match.
In fact, please don't feel like everyone needs to show up in the exact same shirt. 😂
For fall photos, I love warm, earthy colours, cozy layers and textures. Think creams, browns, rust, olive, mustard, burgundy, denim and other colours that play nicely with the season.
Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable in.
You'll be moving around, sitting, walking and interacting with your family, so this probably isn't the time for the outfit that looks fantastic but requires you to breathe very carefully.

CAN WE BRING THE DOG?
Absolutely!
Dogs are part of the family too, and I'm always happy to include them when the location and circumstances allow.
Just keep in mind that fall mini sessions are scheduled fairly close together, so your pup will need to be comfortable around other people and dogs.
And yes, I'm fully prepared for the possibility that your dog will be the best behaved member of the family.
It happens.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
This is Vancouver Island, so naturally we have to talk about rain. 😂
If we're dealing with genuinely terrible weather, I'll be in touch about rescheduling.
If it's cloudy, a little misty or doing that classic Vancouver Island thing where you're not entirely sure whether it's raining or just aggressively damp, we're probably still good to go.
Cloudy weather can actually make for beautiful photos, and a little bit of drizzle isn't going to ruin the session.
If the weather forecast is looking questionable, don't panic. I'll keep an eye on it and we'll figure it out together.
A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING...
How many people can we bring?
If you're looking for an extended-family session with grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and approximately half the population of Parksville, a full session will probably be a better fit.
How long is the session?
About 15 minutes.
That's it!
Short enough that even the busiest little people can usually make it through, but long enough to get a nice variety of photos.
Where are the sessions?
The Fall Mini Sessions will take place at Nanoose near Parksville, BC.
Exact meeting and parking information will be sent to you after booking.
What if my kids don't cooperate?
They probably won't cooperate perfectly.
And that's okay.
I don't expect kids to stand still, smile on command and behave like tiny adults for 15 minutes.
We'll keep things moving and I'll work with whatever they're giving us that day.
Sometimes the photos where they're running around, laughing or hiding behind Dad end up being everyone's favourites.
When will we get our photos?
Your finished images will be delivered through a private online gallery within 2 weeks of your session.
Can I buy more photos?
Absolutely.
Your session includes 5 images, but if you end up loving more than that, you'll have the option to purchase additional images or the full gallery.

How to book your session:
- Fill out the form including the date and time you're interested in!
- Receive the contract and invoice to pay for your session. ✍️
- Pay invoice to finish reservations, selected time slots are only held for 24 hours without payment.
- Get a confirmation email with the final details of your Fall Mini Session. 🍂📷
* Session is fully confirmed and booked once retainer payment is received.
Payment of the session fee is due upon booking to secure your spot. The retainer is non-refundable should you cancel but is it transferable to another date you wish to amend your booking. A $25 fee will apply for rescheduling within 10 days of the session date.
In the event of adverse weather, sessions will be rescheduled to the nearest available date.
You will receive an email with the exact meeting location the week before your session date. Please add my email address, AmbientImageryPhotography@gmail.com to your address book/ contact list so that my email will go to your inbox, not the junk/ spam folder. If you didn’t receive an email confirmation after the booking was completed, please check your junk/spam folder.
Due to the sessions being back to back, please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes EARLY. This will allow for parking time and walking to the photo spot. Any client that is late arriving to the session will have the amount of time late deducted from their session time.
