Vancouver Island Family Photography Locations I Serve

If you are looking for a family photographer on Vancouver Island, you might be trying to figure out if I actually work in your area.

The short answer is yes, I travel throughout a wide range of communities along the mid-island coast.

Most of my family sessions take place around Parksville, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, and the surrounding smaller communities in between.

Each area has its own feel, but they all share what I love most about photographing families here, natural west coast scenery, open space, and a relaxed way of doing things.

Parksville family photography

Parksville is one of the most popular areas I work in, especially around Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park.

It is known for wide open beaches, soft evening light, and lots of space for kids to move and explore.

This area is a great fit if you want a classic Vancouver Island beach session that feels relaxed and natural.

If you want a closer look at what Parksville sessions feel like, you can see more details and examples here:

Qualicum Beach family photography

Qualicum Beach has a quieter, slower feel compared to some of the busier beach areas.

It is ideal for families who want something a little more peaceful and less crowded, while still keeping that coastal look.

Sessions here tend to feel very relaxed and unhurried.

Nanaimo family photography

Nanaimo offers a mix of coastal views, forest areas, and open parks, which makes it very versatile for family sessions.

Locations like Pipers Lagoon Park, Neck Point Park, and Bowen Park are all great options depending on the feel you are looking for.

You can go from rugged coastline to forest trails without travelling far.

Smaller Vancouver Island communities

A lot of my sessions also take place in smaller nearby areas that do not always get mentioned individually, but are a big part of where I work in the Oceanside communities.

These include places like:

  • Nanoose Bay
  • Lantzville
  • French Creek
  • Coombs
  • Errington
  • surrounding rural and coastal areas

These locations are often where some of the most natural and relaxed family sessions happen, especially when you want a quieter setting.

They may be smaller communities, but they are a big part of the overall Vancouver Island landscape and the way families experience this region.

Choosing a location

If you are not sure where your session should take place, that is completely normal.

Most families do not need to have it figured out ahead of time.

I usually help guide location choice based on:

  • your family's energy and comfort level
  • how much walking you want to do
  • whether you prefer beach, forest, or open space
  • and the kind of feel you want in your final images

The goal is always to choose a location that makes the session feel easy, not complicated.

That's really what matters most

Vancouver Island has no shortage of beautiful places for family photos.

The location matters, but not as much as most people think.

What matters more is creating space for real moments to happen naturally, wherever we end up shooting.

If you are planning a family session anywhere on the mid-island, feel free to reach out and I can help you choose a location that fits your family best.
